Watching The Queen’s Gambit prompted us to dig into the wild journey that chess had to go on to reach Beth.

The first version of chess was invented in the Gupta Empire over 1500 years ago. Over the course of 10 centuries, the game made its way across the world:

India → Persia → North Africa → Europe → USA

The name of the game changed as well as some rules, but the fundamentals remained the same.

We just wish the original pieces had survived because elephant drivers and charioteers are wayyy cooler than bishops and rooks.
