Things Older Than Chai

That’s right - We often think of chai as an ancient Desi tradition, but even Coca Cola has been around longer.

To be clear, tea has existed in South Asia for many centuries. But the concept of masala chai in all of its
☕ milky-adaraky-cardamomy goodness ☕ is less than 100 years old.

And while many of us associate warmth & comfort with the drink, chai’s history is anything but peaceful.

Throughout the rest of this week, we’ll be posting about the violent history of chai and how it became the ubiquitous drink we see today on every South Asian city street corner.
